A series of portraits of Chelsea Pensioners, residents of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, London. An iconic sight of West London, the in-pensioners are filled to the brim with astonishing stories of life inside and out of their time serving in the British military.
Anyone who is over sixty-five and has served as a regular soldier, who has no dependent spouse or family, who finds themselves in need and who is "of good character" can apply to become one of the world famous Chelsea Pensioners.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to produce this series as a personal project. I spent approximately 1 hour with each pensioner, discussing everything from their time in the military (and all manner of escapades therein) to life on civvy street. The shoot was enlightening, humourous, suprisingly emotional at times but overall a very rewarding experience.
